When it first debuted in 2006, the Mazda CX-9 stood out from its crossover siblings in the Mazda family for its size and utility. Although it is one of Mazda’s largest vehicle models, complete with a third row of seating, the new 2023 Mazda CX-9 is technically classified as a mid-sized SUV.
Like its siblings, the CX-9 offers drivers a union of comfort and class with driving performance at an accessible entry-level price for its class.
For 2023, the CX-9 comes in five different trim packages, ranging from the CX-9 Touring Edition to the CX-9 Grand Touring and Signature Editions. Like all Mazda 2023 crossovers, the CX-9 Carbon Edition comes with signature red leather seats.
One distinct advantage of the CX-9 is its third-row seating and standard all-wheel drive (AWD). However, in addition to these big-ticket features, the 2023 Mazda CX-9 offers drivers a variety of other benefits at its various trim levels to help them choose the perfect driving experience.
The look of the 2023 Mazda CX-9 is clearly modern and performance focused. Although it is one of Mazda’s largest vehicles, the CX-9 does not sacrifice the sporty power and performance that has made Mazda famous.
In addition to standard i-Activ® AWD on all trims, all 2023 CX-9 models include SKYACTIV®-G 2.5 Dynamic Pressure Turbo engines and allow for off-road driving capability via Traction Assist.
The CX-9 also offers drivers increased stability on a variety of road surfaces in all weather conditions with its G-Vectoring Control Plus dynamics system.
If all Mazda crossovers have one thing in common, it is interior luxury. Mazda has made a name for itself within the compact and mid-size crossover market, based on upscale interior design that is reminiscent of higher-end vehicles.
This is especially true for the 2023 Mazda CX-9 interior, which offers drivers several comfort features, including Nappa leather seats, second-row captain’s chairs, and heated seats and steering wheel. Additional add-ons, such as a sliding glass moonroof with an optional sunshade, help bring the outside in, even on city streets.
When it comes to cargo space, the CX-9 offers 14.4 cubic feet with all three rows of seats upright. It is easy to expand that space, however, by folding down both the third row and second row of seats, which increases cargo space to 38.2 cubic feet and 71.2 cubic feet, respectively.
The technological advancements and comfort of the 2023 Mazda CX-9 interior extend to the infotainment and connectivity features of the car. This includes several standard features, such as HD radio, wireless device charging, Bluetooth connectivity, and Apple CarPlay and Android Audio integration.
All models above the Carbon Edition trim level also feature a custom, 12-speaker Bose® Centerpoint® surround sound system with AudioPilot®.
For a more connected driving experience, each model includes a 10.25-inch, full color center display with a multi function commander control and voice command integration. All drivers who purchase a new Mazda CX-9 receive three years of complimentary access to Mazda Connected Services.
This gives consumers access to the full features of the MyMazda app, which provides drivers with remote start capabilities, periodic vehicle health reports, and access to roadside service.
All trim levels of the Mazda CX-9 come with a variety of advanced safety features, such as a lane departure warning system, tire pressure monitoring, Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, and Mazda’s Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) with Stop & Go.
More advanced trim levels include even more safety and driver assist features, including front and rear parking sensors and driver attention alert. Trim levels starting at the CX-9 Grand Touring Edition include 360-degree mirrors and rear smart brake support.
The added size and space of the third row in the Mazda CX-9 certainly makes it stand out from other vehicles in the 2023 lineup, but even with that addition, many drivers choose to further personalize their car with Mazda CX-9 accessories.
At DePaula Mazda, we offer a variety of add-ons from splash guards to cargo covers to help drivers personalize their CX-9 vehicles and add to their functionality.
